The stock of Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) closed at $46.29 losing 1.24% in yesterday’s trading session. It was just recently that this company struck a business collaboration with Cisco Systems, Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO) and the two sought to enhance user experience as well as simplify network with improved security, storage and mobility. The business gurus used the Verizon lab located in Waltham to conduct the tests of Cisco’s hybrid open-source Information-Centric Networking (ICN) software.
The ICN technology works on the principle of simplifying network by using “named data” as opposed to using the wide range if the location identifiers, the IP addresses falling under the category.
It was a trail that turned out to be pretty much effective in line with showcasing how ICN technology marked an improvement over traditional Transmission Control Protocol (TCP/IP) networking and the long and short of it is that ICN is what is needed when it comes to offering dynamic load balancing of video media as well as the dynamic adaptive streaming solutions. It all boils down to the enhancement of the overall viewing experience as well as the reductions in terms of the distance traveled by the content.
The technology in a major way leverages on the content-specific naming strategy as opposed to an IP address. The best part about this means lies in the fact that it caters for more efficient delivery of streaming content to a mobile network and there is nothing to worry about including the user’s location.
The users has the freedom to move around and of course that might be between different network access methods like WiFi or 5G.It might also be between different cell sites and it is a good thing that Verizon has managed to illustrate just how ICN technology could be inserted into existing IP infrastructure and the whole matter revolves around the enablement of coexistence basically with a legacy IP traffic.
The benefits that pull along with a virtualized Hybrid-ICN network fundamentally points to the fact that technology can move quite along way in terms of simplifying the way in which the various users gain access to content in a mobile environment.
